2 yo Black Lab named GIGI, Beautiful, Sweet, AKC Reg or Service Dog Gigi just turned 2 years old on February 1st, and here’s her story. I’m a dog trainer in Lakeland, FL, and I had a long-time client (over 10 years) whose male and female Labs were having a litter. He knew I had just lost my Labrador of 10 years and was having a hard time. He offered me two puppies in exchange for training his 3 of his puppies.  I previously trained his adult dogs. All of the dogs, including the puppies, are AKC registered. After completing the training, I kept one puppy and placed the other. At that time, keeping both was simply too much for me emotionally. Gigi was placed with a gentleman who needed a service dog. Before she left, I trained her as a Service Dog in Training. About two weeks ago, I received a call from him explaining that his health was declining and he could no longer properly care for her. He asked if I would take her back — and of course, I did. When Gigi returned, she wasn’t quite the same dog. She appears to have spent a significant amount of time crated. When she sees someone, she becomes overly excited — not just happy tail wags or normal jumping, but a level of excitement that shows she hasn’t had consistent interaction or outlet. It’s not aggression at all — not one ounce. She is incredibly sweet and loving and love to play fetch. She just hasn’t had the structure, engagement, and stability she needs. Gigi deserves a family or individual who will truly love her and provide long-term stability and connection. There are two possible adoption options: AKC Registered (Not Spayed): She can remain intact and be placed in a loving home that may wish to responsibly breed in the future.Spayed Option: If she is spayed, I will re-evaluate and fully certify her as a Service Dog after six months in her new home, once she has settled and rebuilt consistency.(For clarity, the previous owner was supposed to have her spayed as part of the original service dog agreement but did not complete that step.)Gigi is a beautiful, sweet, affectionate girl. She simply needs a committed home and someone who will give her the consistency and love she deserves. Here are some pictures of her as a puppy and as she is now. Frequently Asked Questions
About Labrador Retriever Puppies
What's it like owning a Labrador Retriever?
Labrador Retrievers are multi-talented dogs that love people and being active. They come in three colors: black, yellow, and chocolate and are extremely popular for their versatility and friendly disposition. Full-grown, they typically weigh 55-80 pounds and stand 21-25 inches tall.
Are Labrador Retrievers safe around children?
Labrador Retrievers are generally excellent with children of all ages. They don’t do well with being forced to live outside away from their people family, so you should plan to have them living in your house with you. Labrador Retrievers usually get along alright with any feline friends that also call your place home, and they tend to play nice with other dogs as well. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.
How active are Labrador Retrievers on a daily basis?
Labrador Retrievers are happiest when they get about an hour of exercise every day. You can split that exercise up into morning and evening sessions, but you’ll find that when they’re worn out from exercise they behave a little better at home. People love Labrador Retrievers because they’re up for all types of activities and are exceptionally talented in many arenas. Overall, their exercise needs are very high.
What should I expect with Labrador Retriever shedding?
Labrador Retrievers have a short-medium length coat that will require brushing once or twice a week. There’s no way around it: Labrador Retrievers shed a lot. The more you brush them, the less they’ll shed around your house, but there’s no way to get it all. Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.
Where do Labrador Retrievers do best — city or country?
Labrador Retrievers are best suited for a house with a good-sized yard. Labrador retrievers can live happily in almost any type of home as long as they get their exercise. They don’t do well with being forced to live outside away from their people family, so you should plan to have them living in your house with you. They are highly trainable and eager to learn.

Visit or Video Call the Breeder
Visit in person if possible, or request a live video call to meet the puppy, see its living conditions, and meet the mom. Ask to see where the dogs eat, sleep, and play.
Get a Vet Exam Immediately
Have a vet examine the puppy within two days of bringing it home, even if it seems healthy.
Request Complete Health Records
Ask for vaccination records, deworming history, and vet exam results. For purebreds, ask for parent health clearances.

Written contract with health guarantees, return/refund policy, and spay/neuter terms. Verbal promises are unenforceable.
Use Secure Payment Methods

Check USDA license, state breeder license, breed club memberships, and reviews. Ask for buyer references.
