Nenets Reindeer Herding Laika — The Rare Arctic Herding Companion at NorthStar Ranch
These are purebred puppies from imported dogs from the tundra in Russia. They are about the size of a Pomsky or a Shetland Sheepdog, in a fun rare breed.
The Nenets Reindeer Herding Laika is an ancient and extremely rare working breed from the Arctic regions of Russia. Developed by the Nenets people for herding reindeer across vast tundra, these dogs are intelligent, responsive, and deeply bonded to their humans. They are smaller and more agile than many northern breeds, with a natural instinct to work closely with people, making them highly trainable and incredibly devoted companions.
At NorthStar Ranch, we are proud to be one of the leading programs preserving and developing the Nenets Reindeer Herding Laika in the United States. Through carefully selected imports and partnerships with dedicated breeders, we have helped establish and maintain valuable bloodlines for this rare breed here in America. Our focus is on temperament, working ability, structure, and long-term breed preservation.
Our puppies are raised in an indoor/outdoor environment on our ranch as part of daily life. They receive extensive early socialization, enrichment, and real-world exposure. Many participate in our NorthStar Puppy Yoga sessions and other confidence-building experiences, helping them grow into well-rounded, adaptable dogs. These puppies are not only unique in appearance but exceptional in their connection to people.
Every Nenets Reindeer Herding Laika puppy from NorthStar comes:
Up to date on vaccines and deworming
With a detailed binder including care instructions, feeding guide, and health records
With 30 days of free pet health insurance
With a 30-day jar of NuVet supplements
And with our NorthStar Puppy Kit, which includes a collar and leash, Royal Canin puppy food, NuVet shampoo, a travel bowl, cleanup bags, toys, treats, chewies, and a measuring cup
Everything in our puppy kits is designed to make the ride home easier and to help your puppy transition smoothly into their new environment. We include familiar items, scents, and essentials so your puppy has comfort and continuity from the very beginning.
Puppies are $1,500 on limited registration (no breeding rights) or $3,000 with full breeding rights. They are registered through ASDR, which currently serves as our primary registry for the breed here in the United States.
We are based in Texas, but we frequently travel for puppy yoga events, dog shows, and deliveries. We have upcoming trips planned to the East Coast and other regions, and we are often able to coordinate delivery along our routes. We simply ask for a little help with gas if we need to go off route.
Our puppies are raised with intention, experience, and a deep commitment to preserving this incredible rare breed. Visit www.NorthStar.dog
