ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) for puppies, also known as the Bio Sensor program, involves short, gentle stress exercises daily from days 3-16 to improve their nervous system, leading to better stress tolerance, stronger immunity, and enhanced performance later in life, but it's not a substitute for regular socialization. The five exercises include tactile, head up, head down, supine (on back), and thermal stimulation, each lasting only 3-5 seconds, performed once a day per puppy to build resilience and confidence.
How ENS Works (The Five Exercises)
Performed once daily between days 3 and 16 for 3-5 seconds each:
Tactile Stimulation: Gently tickle a single paw with a cotton swab.Head Held Erect: Hold the puppy upright, head above tail.Head Pointed Down: Hold the puppy upside down, head towards the ground.Supine Position: Hold the puppy on its back in your hands.Thermal Stimulation: Briefly place the puppy on a cool, damp towel.
Benefits of ENS
Improved Stress Response: Better tolerance for new or uncomfortable situations.Stronger Health: Better cardiovascular performance, stronger adrenal glands, and greater disease resistance.Enhanced Learning: Faster maturation and improved problem-solving ability.Increased Confidence: Builds emotional stability and adaptability.
Important Considerations
Timing is Crucial: Must be done between days 3-16 for effectiveness. Not a Replacement: It supplements, but does not replace, normal handling, play, and socialization.Gentle Application: The stressors are mild and brief to stimulate, not overwhelm, the puppy
