Afghan Hounds are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. Afghan Hounds need to be a part of a family where they can live indoors with people. They get along with children if they are raised around them, but usually don’t do so well with cats. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.

These brushings will help remove tangles or matting and cut back on shedding. Grooming-wise, this breed is fairly high-maintenance. Afghan Hounds are considered hypoallergenic, which can be a plus for allergy sufferers.

Afghan Hounds are best suited for apartments and smaller homes. Afghan Hounds need to be a part of a family where they can live indoors with people. They don’t need a ton of space as long as you make sure to exercise them daily. They are can be stubborn and challenging to train.
