Our home breeding facilities far exceed industry standards. Though a program as small as ours does not need to be licensed, we are compliant with current licensing requirements and adhere to recommendations put forth by the USDA, the DATCP (Wisconsin), the ASPCA and the AKC. The philosophy of Halcyon Kennels is that we are pet owners first and breeders second. We are innovating a "cooperative" breeding system. All of our dogs are family pets and live indoors in one of our four family homes. We rotate all of our dogs through the different households depending on their needs. Our dogs are uniquely secure and flexible because they have been trained to adapt to each of our homes and the people and pets who live in them. The one thing that they can always depend on, however, is that they will be cared for with the same high standards no matter where they are. In this way, we are able to expand our breeding program without resorting to a farm or puppy mill-type of situation. We currently have ten dogs between our four families, and another who is placed in a guardianship. Our puppies are monitored 24/7 with video cameras and, for the first three months, round-the-clock supervision. All of our puppies receive Early Neurological Stimulation and then are socialized using our version of the Rule of 7s technique.
