Yes, most breeders have your puppy on antibiotics as a precaution, in case they get sick. Antibiotics are considered a drug and are not without side effects. I think if you start them off with a strong immune system and keep it that way, then you do not need to raise them with unhealthy precautions. I am a holistic dog breeder and have been raising dogs for over 30 years. Being holistic means I do not use chemicals or drugs when raising my puppies. Many veterinarians recommend immunizations while the puppies are quite young and this damages their immune system. No puppy should ever be immunized before the age of 14 weeks as it still has natural immunity from their mama, no matter what age they are weaned. With that being said, ZERO vaccinations is always best.  This is not just my opinion, it is the opinion of many veterinarians too. There has never been any studies done on re-vaccinating a puppy or a dog. It is the vaccine manufactures who recommend it. Long term effects have not been studied. Most shots last a lifetime and some last 7 years. It is very damaging to keep giving them shots that are doing nothing but setting them up to have problems down the road. It is very harmful and many veterinarians believe it is the reason so many dogs are dying from cancer, have skin problems, etc... Most states have a law that states that the only vaccine required is the rabies vaccine. Instead of using vaccinations and antibiotics, I believe in building up their immune systems.
