I got my first Golden Retriever in 1996. Her name was Molly a year after I built my home. I have been a small breeder for about six years. I do not have kennels, crates, or cages outside as many breeders do. My puppies are kept in my home. Molly lived for 16 years, and my other dog 15.5 years. It’s been proven and you can read this on the internet that the way commercial Kibble is processed will cut your Goldens life span by about 50%. The high heat and pressure used to make kibble creates cancer causing toxins like acrylamides. Every day when I check posts on Facebook, I read about Goldens dying of cancer as young as 3 years. But it seems the average is 8 years. Unlike humans, who have the option to modify and limit their exposure to acrylamides by varying their diet, domestic animals are not typically given a variety of options with which to choose from – they are obliged to eat whatever is put in front of them – or starve. Unfortunately, most pets are fed a diet of canned and kibble food – day in, day out – every day for the rest of their lives: A food that could contain cancer causing chemicals. I have fed my dogs a human grade diet since 1996. And to this diet I have added extra vitamins and supplements that have omega 3, and lots of good things like antioxidants that can kill cancer cells. My clients will get the receipt for this diet and it will cost less than getting expensive kibble. I am retired and breeding dogs is not my only source of income. With responsible breeding it takes dedication and a lot of time, not to mention major expenditures. I do it because I love the breed.
