We live in Spokane, Washington, on a 10-acre property. We have kept American Akitas for many years; after getting our first ones, we realized it was the best breed, so when our original pair passed away from old age, we decided to get American Akitas again. My husband built them a large kennel house and a huge deck where they can roam freely; their sleeping quarters are heated, and we even installed air conditioning in the whelping house. We fenced off an area of over an acre to give them plenty of room for exercise and play, as this breed prefers being outdoors. We feed them a high-quality diet and regularly provide joint supplements and fish oil; the puppies from every litter are healthy.
