About Akwe Basenjis
I became interested in breeding basenjis as a teenager - decades before I got my first one! When show breeder friends became interested in Basenjis from Africa in 2006 i signed on & got my first: Apollo. I visited the region for 3 weeks to make see with my own eyes that we weren’t getting street dogs & to see how remote the villages were. I also witnessed a hunt. Embark says we have 100% basenjis & breedings produce 100% basenjis. Since I breed for health & temperament we get some colors & coats that are not common but are normal and so far are attractive. The dogs tend to be very bonded to their humans. Training for manners goes well. They are still characters. My husband and I are home based occasional breeder. Member Basenji Club of America. Health, genetic diversity, & temperament are priorities. All health tests are done & pups come with microchips & lifetime support. I breed both 100% African and 1/2 African litters.
