PandaGerman Shepherds are German Shepherds with a rare genetic mutation that causes white spotting. The mutation, which affects the KIT gene, is autosomal dominant, meaning a puppy only needs to inherit one copy of the mutated gene to be a Panda GSD. The first recorded case was in 2000. The Panda pattern is characterized by symmetrical white markings on the dog's muzzle, forelock, chest, collar, ventral abdomen, and tail tip. The amount of white can vary.ย
