The de Grande Taille is easy to train, but be aware of this breed's intense sensitivity. They are bred to hunt and make great hunting companions. They are quick learners and will take commands from their hunting masters easily.
The de Grande Taille is a variety of the Braque Francais, and although much like the de Petite in temperament, they are the larger and taller of the two breeds. The de Grande Taille is a large gun dog, prized for their hunting and tracking abilities. This rare breed is tall, sociable, and focused, yet they are known as a “soft breed,” and should not be subjected to harsh training methods. They are sensitive and friendly, great with families and children, and can be socialized to get along well with other pets.
Temperament and Behavior
The de Grande Taille is well-suited as a family pet, while also being a dependable hunting partner. The best owners for a de Grande Taille are sensitive and who take this breed out for an occasional hunt. They are obedient and quick to learn, but do not respond well to harsh yelling or commands. They are eager to please, so use a soft-handed approach with this breed.
Coat & Grooming
The de Grande Taille coat is short and thick and usually has brown with occasional white speckling. Their heads are usually solid chestnut brown, and their coats may occasionally have large chestnut brown patches.They are average shedders and do not require professional grooming, just the occasional bath. Brushing once a week is recommended.
Lifestyle & Living Conditions
The de Grande Taille is a great hunting dog and easily trained. They will be happiest in a home whose owner's will take their pup on an occasional trail hunt to satisfy their natural instincts. They love to perform and please their owners and are sensitive to their master’s commands. When properly trained and socialized, these dogs are known to be gentle with children, but they may be a bit too rough for toddlers. They are shy, but are also known to be tolerant of strangers. The de Grande Taille moves a bit slower than the more fluid run of the de Petite.
Exercise & Activity
The de Grande Taille requires a great deal of daily exercise in order to keep them on their best behavior. At least an hour of vigorous exercise and play every day is best for these highly active dogs. They make wonderful jogging partners, but keep them on a leash, because they will certainly run after something interesting. After their daily exercise, they will be laid back and perfectly comfortable with lounging on the rug while you catch up on the news.
