Overview
A de Petite Taille is easy to train, but be aware of this rare breed's extreme sensitivity. They are bred to hunt and make great hunting companions. They are quick learners and will respond to commands from their hunting masters.
The de Petite Taille is the smaller version of the Braque Francais. They are medium-sized gun dogs bred for their hunting and tracking ability. This rare breed is muscular and focused but are known as a “soft breed” and should not be subjected to harsh training methods. They are sensitive and friendly, great with families and children, and can be socialized to get along well with other pets.
Temperament and Behavior
The de Petite Taille is best-suited as a family pet, while also being a dependable hunting dog. They execute both roles lovingly. The best owner for a de Petite Taille is one who is sensitive and can take this breed out for an occasional hunt. They are obedient and quick to learn, but they do not respond well to harsh yelling or commands. They are eager to please, so use a soft-handed approach with this breed.
Coat & Grooming
The de Petite Taille coat is fine and short, with speckled brown and white spots over most of their bodies. The head is usually solid chestnut brown, and their coats may occasionally have large chestnut brown patches. Brushing once a week or less is recommended. They are average shedders and do not require professional grooming.
Lifestyle & Living Conditions
The de Petite Taille is energetic, driven, and highly trainable. They will be happiest in a home whose owners will take them out for the occasional trail hunt to satisfy their natural instincts. They love to perform and please their owners and are sensitive to their master’s commands. When properly trained and socialized, these dogs are known to be gentle with children, but they may be a bit too rough for toddlers. They are shy, but are also known to be tolerant of strangers.
Exercise & Activity
The de Petite Taille requires a substantial amount of daily exercise in order to stay happy. At least an hour of vigorous exercise every day is recommended. They make wonderful jogging partners, but are also eager to run round in an off-leash, enclosed area. Unless they have the proper amount of exercise, they will exhibit destructive behaviors. After their daily exercise, they will be laid back and content to lounge around the house.
