Overview
Chart Polskis are lean, not-so-mean sprinting machines. As a relative of the Greyhound, these dogs are an impressive mixture of size, speed, and strength. They love running after anything in sight and being around their family, but they are not as fond of other dogs or small animals. These pups prefer to have you all to themselves, especially if you're up for the chase.
As a member of the Greyhound pack, the Chart Polski loves running just as much as their relatives, but this breed is bigger, heavier, more protective, and less gentle. These dogs are loving and obedient, but they have a territorial side that's uncommon for sighthounds. They can get aggressive around other dogs, and if they see someone or something encroaching on their property, they're off to the races. Chart Polskis also have strong hunting instincts, so they're best-suited for homes without other animals that also have big yards where they can run, play, and chase rodents all day long.
Temperament and Behavior
Chart Polskis are sweet, affectionate, quiet, and well-behaved, but they’re more determined and territorial than their Greyhound relatives. They love being the center of attention and will wag their tail to show their joy. Behind the scenes, they prefer the low-key life and being the apple of your eye. Chart Polskis also are skilled hunters, so the more you can tap into those instincts with games and activities, the happier they’ll be.
Coat & Grooming
The Chart Polski has a short coat of smooth fur that sheds quite a bit. Brush them at least a few times a week to pick up most of their hair and avoid having smatterings of fur around the house. Because of their short hair, these dogs don’t attract much dirt, so they should only need a bath once in a while or when they make a mess.
Lifestyle & Living Conditions
Chart Polskis enjoy children, but their size, energy, and strength can be overwhelming for small kids. They’re known to be aggressive toward other dogs, so they prefer to be the only pooch or surrounded by other Polskis. Due to their hunting nature, these dogs are more likely to see cats and small animals as dinner instead of playmates. It's best to keep them leashed in public so they don't dart off unexpectedly. With their large stature and high energy, the Polski is best-suited for houses with plenty of space to roam and a big yard to play.
Exercise & Activity
Like most Greyhounds, Chart Polskis are high energy and love to sprint. They prefer short bursts of activity over endurance exercises, so they'll choose a game of chase over a long run any day. Chart Polskis also have a strong prey drive, so they will jump at the chance to run after a ball or small animal.
