"If it’s happening outdoors, I’m already ahead of you!"
Breed Profile
The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir (translated, French Black and White Hound) is a free-spirited dog, bred for their hunting abilities, but they also love human companionship. They are low maintenance, great with children, but will quickly seek out the hunting trail. They are largely a local breed and are rarely found outside of their native France.

Behavior

The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir are bright, energetic hunting dogs that love a good chase. They have an incredible sense of smell, which can occasionally get them into trouble. These dogs must be leashed at all times when outdoors, as they will quickly pose a threat to other small animals, neighboring pets, or woodland creatures. The Black and White loves their human families though and gets along well with other pets and children when properly socialized from a young age. They are a wonderful family pet, if you can keep up with them. The Black and White is meant to hunt, so they have very loud voices, which they use when spotting some small creature of interest.

Coat

The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir coat is of course, black and white. Pale tan dots are above each eye, as well as above their cheeks, sometimes also below the ears. Tan markings may also be found on their legs. Their coats are short and dense, low maintenance, and only require a regular brushing to remove dead hairs. Their ears need a bit more care in order to keep clean.

Lifestyle

Life with a Black and White means an active, outdoor life. They aren’t suitable for apartment life, due to their high exercise requirement and tendency to bay loudly at smaller critters and interesting scents. They love to explore and will occasionally indulge in the chase, but proper training can decrease sudden unexpected behaviors. Once they’ve reached their daily required hour of vigorous physical exercise, they tend to be relaxed and calm indoors. An excellent family dog, they will get along well with children and small animals.

Activity

Black and Whites are highly active and need space to roam and run. Substantial exercise is needed each day for these athletic dogs, but they'll be content to laze around if you can commit to at least one hour each day of high impact, vigorous exercise with them.
