Temperament and Behavior

The Cockalier breed is a smart breed with friendly personalities. They are very easy-going and calm, however, they will enjoy lots of play with their family. The Cockalier is known to be very well suited for families with children, as they are not one owner dogs. They also get along very well with small pets and other dogs. It is necessary for you to supervise your Cockalier around children if it is on the small side, as they could be injured accidentally during play. This breed is very intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train. Housebreaking is no issue for the Cockalier. The Cockalier is quite even tempered, any signs of aggression are atypical of this breed. Additionally, they are not excessive barkers.

Coat & Grooming

The Cockalier's coat is soft and fluffy with the characteristic spaniel fringes on the legs and feet. They can come in a variety of colors and markings, but the most popular is the Blenheim marking. This is a white colored coat with spots of various shapes and sizes in a golden red color. The color and markings of the Cockalier will largely depend on the lineage.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

As stated, the Cockalier is a mix of the Cavalier King Charles and the Cocker Spaniel. A mixed breed dog can have a combination of any of the temperament and characteristics of any breed involved. It is recommended that you thoroughly research all breeds involved in your mixed breed puppy to ensure that you are amenable and prepared for any of the possibilities.

Exercise & Activity

The Cockalier is an energetic breed that loves to play. They are active indoors, but should still be provided a good area to play and regular daily walks. The Cockalier loves their toys, so something chewy and something to tug on are a must in the home. It is not uncommon for the Cockalier to exhibit interest in hunting and they may attempt to chase small game such as birds, rabbits or squirrels. It is necessary that your Cockalier stay on a leash during play time when not in an area with a secure fence.
