Overview

With their round heads, wide eyes, long, feathery ears and lively colors, the English Toy Spaniel has a distinct and attention-grabbing appearance. While sometimes timid and a bit stubborn, this breed is very intelligent, friendly, and well-behaved.

English Toy Spaniels were once a fashionable lap dog and companion for the noble class. In fact, King Charles II had several of these dogs, and they've been a popular pet among nobles and regular folks like us ever since. The English Toy Spaniel loves to be with their family and is an attention craver! While not a loud barker, they do become suspicious around strangers. Although timid and stubborn at times, these pups are cheerful, playful, and intelligent - an ideal dog to carry with you and share your time.

Temperament and Behavior

The English Toy Spaniel loves to be with their family and craves attention. they are cheerful, playful, and intelligent, and they love spending time with their humans. English Toy Spaniels do not bark frequently and are generally well behaved, although they sometimes be timid or stubborn.

Coat & Grooming

English Toy Spaniels have long, soft, silky hair that is lightly waved and could rival the models in an Herbal Essence commercial. There are four color types, including tricolor (‘Prince Charles’), red and white (‘Blenheim’), black and tan (‘King Charles’), and red (‘Ruby’). They only need to be bathed as necessary (such as after a wild romp in the mud), but they should be brushed twice a week to avoid naps and tangles.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

The English Toy Spaniel is a friend to other household pets and other dogs. They fancy older children for play companions as well as for a lap to nap on, however younger children should be supervised around them because of their small size and long, very pullable hair. This breed is happy and always friendly, loving, and devoted to the humans they are close to.

Exercise & Activity

English Toy Spaniels dogs love walks and enjoy indoor play during the summer, since they don’t very much care for hot weather. They are very adaptable to the owner’s activity lifestyle and can adjust to apartment life as well.
