Overview

As a mix between the Wolf Spitz, Chow Chow, and Samoyed, Eurasier dogs are a good blend of calm companion and watchful protector. They’re low maintenance when it comes to grooming and exercise, but they’ll have high expectations for love and attention.

The Eurasier breed originated in the mid-1900s when the Germans crossed a Wolf Spitz, Chow Chow, and Samoyed. Today, they retain bits of each ancestor: the Chow Chow’s coat, Wolf Spitz’s build, and Samoyed’s friendliness. They prefer to be around people they know instead of strangers, but once you’re in their inner circle, they’ll be attached to you at the hip. Eurasiers are devoted family dogs that want nothing more than your love and companionship. They’re high maintenance in the attention department, but low maintenance when it comes to grooming and exercise. A little walk and a lot of love is all this pup needs to be healthy and happy.

Temperament and Behavior

Eurasiers are steady, calm, and self-assured. They like to be close to their families and serve as their protector. These pups make great watchdogs because they’re alert and watchful around strangers but not aggressive. They prefer to spend time with people they know and especially enjoy families that are home most of the time.

Coat & Grooming

The Eurasier has a double coat of medium-length hair, with longer fur on the back of their legs and the tail. Although their coat is longer, it doesn’t need much grooming. They should be brushed a few times each week and checked regularly for fleas or ticks, but other than that, they just need basic care.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Eurasiers get along well with people in their family but aren’t as warm toward strangers. They love kids and other pets, especially if they’re raised together. The breed’s watchdog nature and low activity levels make them a good fit for apartment living. Eurasiers crave human companionship, so they’re best-suited for families that spend a lot of time at home.

Exercise & Activity

The Eurasier is low maintenance when it comes to activity. They can be happy in smaller spaces, like a townhouse or apartment, and only need a short walk or two each day. These dogs are also good at sports that involve interaction with people, like agility, rally, and obedience training.
