Lhasa Apso
Breed Group: non_sporting
"The other pups wish they had my long, luscious locks!"
Breed Profile
Lhasa Apsos are known for their gorgeous long coats and calm, independent spirit. These dogs are likely to come up for a hug and then go back to doing their own thing. Lhasas are wonderful companions but need a doting beauty expert to keep up with their coif.
Behavior
Lhasa Apsos are calm, loyal, and lovable. However, they have a mischievous side and generally do as they please. Lhasas love having company, but they’re also content being independent. While they’re doing their own thing, these dogs always keep an eye on what’s going on around them. They’re suspicious of strangers and will size up new people before befriending them.
Coat
The Lhasa Apso’s gorgeous looks come at a price. Their sweeping coats of long, straight hair don’t shed much, but they still need lots of brushing, a bath every few weeks, and professional grooming to stay clean and tangle-free. Lhasa show dogs will need even more care, but their stunning appearance will be sure to turn heads.
Lifestyle
Lhasa Apsos are affectionate with family members, other dogs, and children. However, they prefer older kids who won’t bother them too much or be too rough with them. Lhasas tend to be wary around strangers, so they may not be a good fit if you enjoy entertaining frequently. Because they were created as companion dogs, Lhasas are happiest indoors and around people.
Activity
This breed is pretty laid back and will adapt to their family’s level of activity. They enjoy a short walk or playtime indoors, but they won’t mind if you opt for a relaxed day around the house. Lhasa Apsos prefer to stay inside most of the time, so don’t be surprised if they aren’t standing at the door waiting to be let out
