"I dunno what that was, but it sure was tasty!"
Breed Profile
Miniature Pinschers are from Germany and were bred to take care of rat problems. With good looks, big personalities and a fun sense of humor, these small dogs quickly moved from the farmhouse to the city. They love to be the center of your attention, so get ready to dole out some love!
Behavior
Miniature Pinschers are sure to high-step into your heart! These lively pups may be less than 10 lbs., but don't tell them that. They’re curious. They’re spunky. They’re brave. Min Pins have watchdog tendencies, but you’ll need to watch over them as well. If they’re on the fence as to whether or not something is food, they’ll just eat it to find out, a hobby that can be hazardous to their health. In addition to being curious, Miniature Pinschers are quick; they might even zip out a cracked door if something catches their eye. On the other hand, Miniature Pinschers are very smart dogs and easy to train!
Coat
Miniature Pinschers are tough little dogs who aren’t afraid of a pretty sweater. In fact, when it’s cold, they definitely require one. Min Pins do not have much fur to keep them warm, but their short-haired coat is easy to maintain. They need an occasional brushing and bathing to keep them looking their best. A brightly colored outfit doesn’t hurt either.
Lifestyle
Miniature Pinschers are a pretty adaptable bunch. Apartment-style living serves them well. Min Pins are energetic but don’t require much in the exercise department in order to be content. Be sure to have them on a leash when taking them out for a walk or keep them in a secured backyard for playtime. They are curious, quick, and hard to catch. Miniature Pinschers love belly rubs, hugs, and kisses from their families, but their small size makes them a better match for older children who play gently. As with most dogs, they do best with an owner who takes a leadership role, and they accept other pets and dogs more openly when properly trained and socialized. If you’d like to add some more laughter in your life, Miniature Pinschers are always entertaining!
Activity
Daily walks (on the leash) are a great activity for curious Miniature Pinschers. It’s an opportunity for them to explore safely and stretch their legs. They really don’t need much more exercise than this. But if you have a competitive streak, these energetic pups enjoy learning new skills and excel at doggie sports like agility and obedience.
