Overview

With the loving nature of a Poodle and the pride of a Pekingese, the Peekapoo is a smart, affectionate dog that will stay glued to your side and bark the day away. These easygoing pups don’t need much activity, but they make up for it in high-maintenance grooming and attention needs. Photo credit: www.flickr.com/photos/islandgyrl/4820241164

Peekapoos combine the people-loving personality of the Poodle with the confidence of the Pekingese. Their demeanor and coat will vary based on their genes, environment, and owners, but in general, you can expect Peekapoos to be cute pals that enjoy barking, playing, and being by your side. They don’t need much exercise to stay fit, but their coats require a little TLC, including regular brushing and professional grooming. They’re hard to predict around kids, other dogs, and cats, but if you bring a Peekapoo into your home, you can count on having a cuddly companion that will adore you no matter what.

Temperament and Behavior

The Peekapoo's personality can be a wild card because of their mixed genes, but these dogs are usually intelligent and friendly. Poodles are more outgoing and social, while the Pekingese tends to be shyer and a bit more stubborn. Although they’re small and cute, most Peekapoos actually make decent watchdogs because of their alertness and barking.

Coat & Grooming

Peekapoo can have different types of coats, depending on whether their Poodle or Pekingese side is stronger. They may have curls, waves, or even straight hair and come in a variety of colors. Plan on brushing these dogs every few days to keep their coats tangle-free. Professional grooming is also popular with this breed to keep them looking their best.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Peekapoo are companion dogs that need to live inside with their families. They can live in a house or apartment as long as they’re around people. These dogs may or may not be a good fit for families with kids, other dogs, or cats. If they’re more Poodle-like, they’re more likely to get along well together, whereas the Pekingese isn’t as fond of sharing their space.

Exercise & Activity

The Peekapoo has low to average energy, so they don’t need much activity or exercise. These little pups will adapt to their owner’s lifestyle, so whether you like a short walk around the block each day or prefer to spend your time relaxing on the couch, they’ll be happy to join in.
