"I take a dignified approach to life!"
Breed Profile
The Spanish Pointer or Perdiguero de Burgos is a loving and loyal hunting dog with lots of energy. They are friendly, smart, and eager to please. The Spanish Pointers makes an excellent family dog, especially if you take them hunting and give them lots of chances to show off their athletic skills.
Behavior
Spanish Pointers are usually friendly toward new people, unless they look like that person is trying to mess with their family. Their favorite activity is hunting and tracking birds, and these athletic dogs will never pass up an opportunity to jump in a swimming hole. So remember to hold your leash tight if you’re not prepared for a wet dog!
Coat
The Spanish Pointers dense, smooth coat typically comes in several colors - black and grey speckled, red speckled, and brown and white speckled. Their coats do not require a lot of extra effort; weekly brushings will keep their coat healthy and cut back on shedding.
Lifestyle
The Spanish Pointers fits best in a family that will give them lots of opportunities to run and play outside. A home with a large, fenced-in yard or safe, outdoors place to play is best. The Spanish Pointer is not a good fit for apartment life. They usually get along well with other dogs but not as well with cats or other smaller pets. The Spanish Pointer loves children and is extremely tolerant of even the clumsiest of toddlers. These people-loving dogs should be allowed to live indoors with their families and should not be permanent outdoor dogs.
Activity
The Spanish Pointer is a high-energy, athletic dog. They need lots of daily exercise, preferably in the form of tracking down birds and other small critters. The Spanish Pointer is a hunting dog at heart and will always be happiest when given a chance to go out in the field. When you can’t take your Spanish Pointer hunting, daily walks, jogs, or hikes will keep them happy, especially if you also give them some time to run free in your backyard as well. You really can’t overestimate the amount of energy these rambunctious dogs have inside them.
