Treeing Curs are athletic, alert dogs who are happiest when on the hunt. There is no question when these dogs have found something. Jumping, panting, and barking are a few dead giveaways. Treeing Curs are smart and quick to pick up new tricks and commands. They love pleasing their hunting partner - maybe even more than they love chasing squirrels! There’s nothing like a pat of approval from their owners after a hard day’s work. If they don’t have a job to do, these lively dogs get restless easily. To be balanced, happy family dogs, Treeing Curs will need plenty of daily exercise. They grow very attached to their families and will keep a watchful eye out for anything that doesn’t seem right – and for critters, of course!

Treeing Curs are working dogs and don’t require much primping. Occasional brushing will keep their short coat healthy and free of dead hairs. This will help with shedding. Treeing Curs should be bathed on an “as-needed” basis – like when they tromp into the house dirty from the day’s hunt. In this case, you’ll also want to check their ears and coat for ticks.

Treeing Curs are a hunter’s best friend. They thrive in the great outdoors and have energy for days. Treeing Curs prefer rural settings with acres to sniff, explore, and hunt for critters. They will not be happy in small spaces, like apartments. With exercise needs met, Treeing Curs are well-mannered, happy family pets. As with any dogs with high prey drives, you should supervise them around small furry pets. Well-socialized curs are also known to enjoy the company of children.

When not chasing bushy tails and barking up trees, Treeing Curs will gladly play a round or two of fetch with you! They are also great jogging buddies. A long daily run and the ability to race around a secure backyard is a good mix of activity for these dogs when not working.
