Overview

The Volpino Italiano is a ancient Spitz breed, and while rare, makes an impact on everyone they meet. These dogs are lively and fun, and despite their smaller size, wants to be a watchdog too.

The Volpino Italiano is a Spitz dog that descends from an ancient Italian breed. Although they are hard to find today, they are well-loved as family pets and beloved for their trademark fluffy white and/or tan coats and cheery personalities. They are curious, lively, and actually make great watchdogs, despite their smaller size. The Volpino Italiano craves attention and can't wait to become your best friend.

Temperament and Behavior

Volpino Italianos are active, intelligent dogs that make wonderful family pets. They are friendly to most everyone, but they definitely are inclined to safeguard their home and family and will make a lot of noise if a stranger enters the home or even rings the doorbell. They need a fair amount of exercise each day, but afterwards, count on your Volpino to curl up on your lap and go to sleep. They are an all-around happy family pet, so count on these dogs to be great with children and adults alike.

Coat & Grooming

The Volpino Italiano's coat is usually full and fluffy and can come in white or cream but may also be light brown to reddish. Their coats are long and dense and require frequent brushing to keep them beautiful and free from matting and dirt. An occasional bath is only needed if your Volpino gets really dirty outside.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

The Volpino Italiano can fit into a variety of homes because of their small stature. They definitely need to live indoors with the family, though, so they can fulfill their watchdog instincts for you. These dogs would do well in an apartment, as long as they get plenty of time outdoors to run and play. Volpinos are a wonderful family pet and will be happy growing up alongside children and other pets in the house.

Exercise & Activity

Volpino Italianos are lively dogs that love to run and play. To keep your Volpino happy and healthy, give them lots of attention and exercise. In addition to their daily walk, these dogs love to chase and play fetch with toys, so stock up on your rubber balls and ropes.
