About Teddy Roosevelt Terrier Puppies
What kind of dog is a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier?
Teddy Roosevelt Terriers were a favorite of President Roosevelt and are related to the Rat Terrier. These dogs are energetic and cheery, but their curiosity can get the best of them at times and place them in funny situations. Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are loyal family members who bring the laughs! Full-grown, they typically weigh 8-25 pounds and stand 8-14 inches tall.
How do Teddy Roosevelt Terriers behave around young children?
Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are generally excellent with children of all ages. If raised together, Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are fun, friendly companions for children, cats, and other dogs. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.
How do I keep a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier physically active?
Teddy Roosevelt Terriers might be on the smaller side, but they sure do have spunk and stamina. These dogs should get up to an hour of exercise each day and will happily be your walking or jogging buddy. Agility and obedience activities are great options for these smart dogs, as they will have the opportunity to get mental exercise as well. Overall, their exercise needs are high.
Do Teddy Roosevelt Terriers shed a lot?
Teddy Roosevelt Terriers must be solid white or have some white in their coat if bi-color or tri-color. They’ll need regular brushing to keep their coat looking shiny and healthy, but they only need bathed when noticeably dirty or smelly. Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.
Do Teddy Roosevelt Terriers need a big yard?
Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are best suited for apartments and smaller homes. Teddy Roosevelt Terriers are happy in most settings as long as they have access to an outdoor space. Be sure that their outdoor play area is secure, and keep them on a leash when on walks. They are moderately trainable with consistent effort.

Visit or Video Call the Breeder
Visit in person if possible, or request a live video call to meet the puppy, see its living conditions, and meet the mom. Ask to see where the dogs eat, sleep, and play.
Get a Vet Exam Immediately
Have a vet examine the puppy within two days of bringing it home, even if it seems healthy.
Request Complete Health Records
Ask for vaccination records, deworming history, and vet exam results. For purebreds, ask for parent health clearances.
Get Everything in Writing
Written contract with health guarantees, return/refund policy, and spay/neuter terms. Verbal promises are unenforceable.
Use Secure Payment Methods
Pay with a credit card or another traceable method that offers buyer protection. Avoid wire transfers, crypto, or gift cards, which are difficult to recover.
Verify Breeder Credentials
Check USDA license, state breeder license, breed club memberships, and reviews. Ask for buyer references.
Know What to Look For
A trustworthy breeder welcomes visits, specializes in one or two breeds, prices fairly, and gives you time to decide without pressure.
Know Your State's Laws
Some states have lemon laws; others rely on contract law. Know your rights before you buy.
