The Havamalt is a designer hybrid breed consisting of Havanese and Maltese. The breed originated in recent years in the United States. The Havamalt was originally developed as a way to amplify only the best qualities of both breeds involved. It is not uncommon for puppies from the same litter to look quite different, as often the puppies will take on physical characteristics resembling more closely one parent or the other. Havamalts are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. The Havamalt is a mix of the Havanese and the Maltese dog breeds. A mixed breed dog can have a combination of any of the temperament and characteristics of any breed involved. They're fairly vocal dogs that bark regularly.

The Havamalt is happiest when they are with their family. They are a companion dog. The Havamalt will adapt to the family's lifestyle. Overall, their exercise needs are moderate.

Havamalt, as a designer hybrid, may have a coat that more closely resembles one breed more than the other. However, generally speaking, the Havamalt will likely exhibit a hypo-allergenic coat ideal for those with allergies. The Havamalt often exhibits a full double coat.
