Frequently Asked Questions
About Belgian Tervuren Puppies

What should I know about Belgian Tervurens before buying one?
The Belgian Tervuren is a smart, lively breed with an insatiable appetite for activity. Whether it’s running after other animals, hiking along your side, or training for a new sport, they can’t get enough. Keep this pup active, or you’ll have one crazy canine on your hands. Full-grown, they typically weigh 45-75 pounds and stand 22-26 inches tall.
Are Belgian Tervurens a good choice for families with kids?
Belgian Tervurens are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. The Belgian Tervuren is moderately friendly with children, dogs, and other pets. They can be socialized to get along well, but they aren’t the most family-friendly breed around. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.
Do Belgian Tervurens need a lot of physical activity?
Belgian Tervurens need plenty of outdoor exercise every day to stay happy and healthy. They enjoy long jogs, walks, and plenty of playtime in the yard—especially if you join in. These dogs love working their minds as much as their bodies, so complex games, sports, and training are perfect for them. Overall, their exercise needs are very high.
How much grooming does a Belgian Tervuren need?
Belgian Tervurens have long, thick double coats, that are usually brown with a black overlay and mask. You also may find sable or grey variations, but they’re much less common. Belgian Tervurens shed heavily once or twice a year and need frequent brushing during those times. Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.
Where do Belgian Tervurens do best — city or country?
Belgian Tervurens are best suited for a home with a yard, though they can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise. Tervurens also crave lots of attention and activity, making them a bad fit for owners that aren’t home often or can’t keep up with their exercise needs. They are highly trainable and eager to learn.

Puppy Buyer's FAQ
See Full Guide Here

Visit or Video Call the Breeder
Visit in person if possible, or request a live video call to meet the puppy, see its living conditions, and meet the mom. Ask to see where the dogs eat, sleep, and play.
Get a Vet Exam Immediately
Have a vet examine the puppy within two days of bringing it home, even if it seems healthy.
Request Complete Health Records
Ask for vaccination records, deworming history, and vet exam results. For purebreds, ask for parent health clearances.
Get Everything in Writing
Written contract with health guarantees, return/refund policy, and spay/neuter terms. Verbal promises are unenforceable.
Use Secure Payment Methods
Pay with a credit card or another traceable method that offers buyer protection. Avoid wire transfers, crypto, or gift cards, which are difficult to recover.
Verify Breeder Credentials
Check USDA license, state breeder license, breed club memberships, and reviews. Ask for buyer references.
Know What to Look For
A trustworthy breeder welcomes visits, specializes in one or two breeds, prices fairly, and gives you time to decide without pressure.
Know Your State's Laws
Some states have lemon laws; others rely on contract law. Know your rights before you buy.
