Pharaoh Hounds are athletic dogs with their own agendas, which usually includes lots of lounging around the house and barking at squirrels. These dogs love their owners, but they don't need constant attention. Constant supervision, however, is another matter. Full-grown, they typically weigh 45-55 pounds and stand 21-25 inches tall.

Pharaoh Hounds are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. They get along very well with children but can be a little too much for a wobbly toddler to handle. Pharaoh Hounds can learn to play nice with cats if they are raised together, but it’s always best to keep an eye on them when they’re together, and never let them play outside at the same time. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.

Although they are prone to laziness, Pharaoh Hounds are excellent athletes. They are naturally talented at the doggie sports of lure coursing and agility. Pharaoh Hounds also relish daily walks and the opportunity to run freely at a dog park or your securely fenced-in backyard. Overall, their exercise needs are high.

Pharaoh Hounds have a short coat that is relatively easy to take care of. They shed very little, and a weekly brushing and polishing with a chamois cloth is all they need to look their best. Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.

Pharaoh Hounds are best suited for apartments and smaller homes. Pharaoh Hounds are thin and have a short coat, so they need to live inside with access to a soft place to plop down and spend the day. They are fairly easy to train.
