Wire Fox Terriers were once used as rodent-hunters, but quickly moved into the hearts of families. They’re always ready for your attention, affection, or any ball you’ll throw their way. They have watchdog characteristics but are a friendly bunch. Wire Fox Terriers are very adaptable and make energetic playmates for kids and families! Full-grown, they typically weigh 15-18 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall.

Wire Fox Terriers are generally excellent with children of all ages. They could be a hunter’s companion, but they are much more of a family pet these days. Well-socialized Wire Fox Terriers are friendly with other dogs and are happy to play with little ones in the backyard. They're fairly vocal dogs that bark regularly.

Wire Fox Terriers love pretty much any activity and are always up for learning new tricks. They’re athletic and can jump high in the air, which makes them ace competitors in Frisbee and agility. Wire Fox Terriers also love fetching a ball out of water and taking long walks with their family. Overall, their exercise needs are high.

Wire Fox Terriers have a dense, wiry coat and feature a distinctive wiry beard. They are light shedders and should be brushed every few days. It’s also recommended to take them to the professional groomers for “plucking,” which removes tufts of dead hair from their coat. Grooming-wise, this breed is moderate. Wire Fox Terriers are considered hypoallergenic, which can be a plus for allergy sufferers.

Wire Fox Terriers are best suited for a home with a yard, though they can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise. They are small and with sufficient outdoor exercise, can even live in apartments. Well-socialized Wire Fox Terriers are friendly with other dogs and are happy to play with little ones in the backyard. They are fairly easy to train.
