Our Story – How GriffonDor Kennels Began
A lifelong love of dogs, a passion for the outdoors, and a breed that stole our hearts.
My love for dogs began long before GriffonDor Kennels was ever a dream. I grew up in a family that owned, raised, and bred dogs for as far back as I can remember. Being surrounded by dogs from an early age sparked a lifelong passion, and I always imagined that one day I might have a breeding program of my own.
As a young man, I was happiest outdoors. Whether exploring new country, hunting, or simply enjoying everything nature had to offer, the outdoors was where I felt most at home. My time serving in the United States Marine Corps only strengthened that passion, further developing my appreciation for adventure, discipline, perseverance, and the rewards of pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone.
Years later, after considerable research, my wife and I discovered the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. We were drawn to the breed’s remarkable versatility, intelligence, affectionate personality, and natural hunting instincts. At the time, we had absolutely no intention of starting a breeding program. We simply wanted an incredible dog to share our lives and adventures with.
Little did we know just how much that first Griffon would change our lives.
Shortly after welcoming our first WPG, we purchased a home on three acres, giving us the space to explore what these incredible dogs were truly capable of. What started as a simple love for the breed quickly grew into a passion for training, developing, and bringing out the very best in our dogs.
We were hooked!
The more time we spent working with our Griffons, the more impressed we became. Their natural bird hunting instincts, enthusiasm for the field, willingness to learn, and seemingly endless desire to explore were everything I loved about the outdoors wrapped into one incredible companion.
But what truly won us over was their ability to transition so effortlessly from an enthusiastic hunting partner in the field to an affectionate, loyal family member at home. These dogs don’t just want to hunt with you. They want to be part of your life. Whether you’re chasing birds across rugged country, hiking a mountain trail, or relaxing on the couch after a long day, a Griffon simply wants to be by your side.
And that’s where the dream of GriffonDor Kennels really began.
What started as a love for one remarkable dog evolved into a desire to raise, train, and develop exceptional Wirehaired Pointing Griffons that other families could enjoy as much as we do.
Today, our goal is about much more than producing beautiful puppies. We’re passionate about preserving the qualities that make this breed so special…. natural hunting ability, sound temperament, intelligence, versatility, and an unwavering connection to their people.
We want every GriffonDor puppy to have the opportunity to become what this breed was meant to be: an outstanding companion in the field, a cherished member of the family, and a loyal partner in life’s greatest adventures.
For us, GriffonDor isn’t just a kennel. It’s a passion, a lifestyle, and the opportunity to share a breed we truly love.
