Griffon Fauve de Bretagne
Breed Group: hound
"I think you're more fun than rabbits!"
Breed Profile
Originally bred in France, Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes were born to hunt wolves, but are actually naturally very sweet dogs. They are lively and obedient and are friendly to most everyone, although they might chase a rabbit or two. Or three.
Behavior
Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes are an outgoing, easygoing bunch. Whether a new person or dog, they like to make friends. Their voice can make a bunch of different noises, which serves them well when hunting. These talkers are usually good listeners, though. With consistent training, Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes are sure to come when called.
Coat
Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes are usually a reddish color. Their coat is wiry and a bit scruffy - perfect hair to mess up with a hearty pet! Give them a good brushing with a firm bristle brush a couple times a week to keep them looking perfectly shaggy.
Lifestyle
Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes are a great match to active owners. They can surely keep up with the most energetic kid in the family or simply be trusted sweet companions. These scenthounds like to have a large fenced-in backyard. Any climate will do. Be sure to keep an eye on them around smaller pets, as they can look like play toys to these hounds.
Activity
As good listeners, Griffon Fauve de Bretagnes can be trained to do many different things. They have a hard-working nose and make great tracking hounds. With endurance and energy to spare, they thrive in agility competitions. With lots of smells to sniff and lots of friends to make, a trip to the dog park is also a fun adventure for these dogs. Not to mention a great place for them to use their outside voices and run off some extra steam!
