Petit Gascon-Saintongeois

The Petit Gascon-Saintongeois likes to sing, which some people may or may not  appreciate. They use their loud voices frequently and will usually bark or howl when a stranger is approaching. However, their barking or howling is usually more of a “hello” than a sign of aggression. They are quite friendly toward most people they meet.

The coat of a Petit Gascon-Saintongeois is short and easy to care for. They are usually white with black patches or speckles. Running a brush through their fur about once a week or after anytime they’ve been out in the field is a good way to make sure their coat stays healthy and clean.

Families who live in rural areas make the best fit for a Petit Gascon-Saintongeois. They like to bark and howl, so the fewer neighbors the better. The Petit Gascon-Saintongeois needs a safe outdoor area where they have the freedom to follow their noses. They can adjust to living both inside and out, but they are not recommended for apartment living. The Petit Gascon-Saintongeois gets along well with children but not so well with cats and other non-canine pets.

Take this breed hunting, and they will love you forever. They are happiest when they are out in the field following their noses toward the nearest furry critters. A daily walk or hike is a great way to keep them happy in between hunting trips.
