Breed Profile
The Polish Hound, or Ogar Polski, is a Polish hunting dog known for their acute sense of smell and their loud, baying voice. They are extremely loving and loyal to their owners but can be stubborn at times. A firm owner with experience with dogs will have no trouble turning this breed into a loving companion and hunter.
Behavior
Polish Hounds love the thrill of the hunt. They thrive when they are in the field and will let you know how happy they are with their loud singing voice. Sometimes this exuberant voice will carry over into daily life, which is something you’ll want to consider before adding them to your family. Some Polish Hounds are more territorial than others, so you’ll want to keep an eye on how they act around strangers and give your house guests a heads up about your furry protector.
Coat
The Polish Hound’s coat is short and smooth, with a dense undercoat and slightly longer hair toward the back of their body. They do not require extensive grooming but should be brushed weekly to keep their coat healthy and clean.
Lifestyle
Polish hounds are high-energy dogs who need lots of space to run. They are not recommended for apartment life and do best in rural situations where they have a safe space to roam freely and where neighbors won’t get annoyed with loud dog voices. Polish Hounds can learn to live indoors our outdoors, provided they have adequate shelter and still get plenty of time to play with their human families. Polish Hounds and children make great buddies, but cats and other small pets are not a great match for this hunting breed.
Activity
Polish Hounds have loads of energy that they’ll need to burn off in order to stay healthy and well-behaved. The best way to help them get rid of their energy reserves is to take them hunting or for a long hike. They’d also enjoy a jog or some time to be silly in your backyard.
