Breed Group: hound
"I win the blue ribbon for all-around softie!"
Breed Profile
The Stabyhoun is a rare breed of hound with a talent for hunting and a thirst for companionship. They are loving and eager dogs that are easy to train.

Behavior

The Stabyhoun has transitioned from a hunting and working dog to a very loving family pet because of their even and affectionate temperaments. They are docile, intelligent, and eager to please. They do need some training, but they need a positive and gentle master who can teach them the ropes. They are kind with other pets, children, and strangers, and they love to perform a variety of tasks and games. These dogs do like to be near humans at all times, so this dog will be happiest with lots of love and daily attention.

Coat

The Stabyhoun has a medium-to-long-lengthed coat that is straight and smooth in texture. Their coats are usually a combination of black or brown and white on their bodies, while their heads and ears are almost always black. They actually possess a fresh and natural smell. They don't need much grooming, as their coats tend to repel dirt. Just a good brushing occasionally is all that's needed.

Lifestyle

The best lifestyle for a Stabyhoun is one with a family that can give them lots of love and a healthy amount of exercise. These dogs may act docile, but they still have high exercise needs. A good fenced-in yard to run around in, plus a long daily walk, helps keep them in good shape. These dogs will also do best in situations where they can live indoors with their humans.

Activity

The Stabyhoun was primarily bred as a hunting and retrieving dog and still can be trained to do so. However, if they are a family pet instead, they will still need a good amount of exercise. They are great swimmers who love the water, and they also do very well in agility and other forms of training games. The Stabyhoun also needs a good daily walk and a large yard to play in to stay happy and healthy.
