Treeing Walker Coonhound
Breed Group: hound
"Do you smell something?"
Breed Profile
Treeing Walker Coonhounds are active, loving dogs, but their most impressive quality is their sense of smell. If they smell something interesting, they won’t stop until they find it. These family-friendly dogs love attention and companionship, but be prepared for them to dart when a new scent is near.
Behavior
The Treeing Walker Coonhound is friendly, confident, and energetic. They're devoted to their masters and eager to please. In fact, Treeing Walkers thrive on attention and won’t be satisfied unless they get plenty of hugs and cuddles. These dogs tend to bark, howl, and drool, but it’s only because they love you.
Coat
Treeing Walker Coonhounds have a smooth, short-haired, glossy coat of bi-color (tan and white or black and white) or tri-color (tan, black, and white) fur. They’re very low maintenance when it comes to grooming; they only need to be brushed and bathed once in a while to stay clean and healthy.
Lifestyle
The Treeing Walker Coonhound gets along well with children and other dogs, but they would rather chase cats than make friends. These pups have a lot of energy and are best suited for homes with large yards. Make sure to build a high fence because Treeing Walkers are famous for their leaping ability. They can live indoors or outdoors, but it’s important that they get enough human interaction.
Activity
Treeing Walker Coonhounds have high energy and need at least a long walk or jog every day. They also love swimming, but their favorite activity is chasing. They can follow a scent at high speed, so be sure to keep your Treeing Walker leashed or in a fenced area to prevent them from running away.

About the Treeing Walker Coonhound
The Treeing Walker Coonhound is like a big Beagle: kind, loyal, and keenly aware of all the scents around them. These dogs love to chase and will dart off the second they smell something interesting. They need to be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard to prevent runaways, but they love people and won’t complain about being kept close to the home. Treeing Walkers are active dogs that need plenty of exercise and attention, but other than that, they’re pretty low maintenance. If you can give them enough hugs and things to sniff, they’ll be happy campers.
