Known for their black-and-tan markings and sniffing talents, Hellenic Hounds or Greek Harehounds are the only breed officially recognized from Greece. These medium-sized hounds have stamina and were used to track hare and wild boar, which are five times their size. They are exceptionally cheery dogs and play well with people, children, and other dogs. Full-grown, they typically weigh 38-44 pounds and stand 18-22 inches tall.

Hellenic Hounds are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. By nature, Hellenic Hounds are social dogs and friendly when meeting new people. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.
