Individual puppy pictures will be done around July 10th. Website https://www.masadafarm.com/available-lgd-karakachan-pups to see parent pictures and puppy pictures when done. Here are some pictures from a previous litter. Litter of AKDA Karakachan LGD whelped June 26th 2026. Puppies were whelped in the goat pasture and will be reared there. These puppies are from my working livestock guardian dogs that guard goats and chickens. Karakachans are new to the U.S.A. and the breed is not yet recognized by the AKC. This litter is registered with the American Karakachan Dog Association. I prefer Karakachans to Great Pyrenees, Kangals, and Anatolian Shepherds. Karakachans are very loving with people but do not wander as much as some LGD breeds. Folks can come choose a puppy in-person or reserve with deposit for pick up at about 8 weeks old. Buyer can also fly to Nashville and I will meet at airport and puppy flies home with you. Pups are current on vaccines and wormings. Puppies are raised with children, chickens, and goats. Frequently Asked Questions
About Karakachan Puppies

What makes Karakachans special?
The Karakachan, also known as the Bulgarian Shepherd, is a breed of livestock guardian dog that is known for its fiercely loyal and protective nature. Full-grown, they typically weigh 70-115 pounds and stand 24-30 inches tall.
How are Karakachans with other pets?
Karakachans are generally good with kids, especially when raised together. They are also not recommended for first-time dog owners or families with young children, as they require experienced and confident handling. They're relatively quiet and don't bark much.
How active are Karakachans on a daily basis?
The Karakachan is a highly active and energetic breed that requires plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. As a working breed, they are accustomed to spending long hours outdoors and may become restless or destructive if not given enough opportunities to exercise and explore. Activities that the Karakachan may enjoy include long walks or hikes, running, playing fetch or other games, and participating in dog sports such as agility or obedience training. Overall, their exercise needs are moderate.
How often should I brush a Karakachan?
The Karakachan, also known as the Bulgarian Shepherd, typically has a thick, dense coat that provides excellent insulation in cold weather. The coat is usually a mix of long, coarse outer hair and a soft undercoat. The colors can vary, but are often a combination of white, black, brown, and gray. Grooming-wise, this breed is fairly high-maintenance.
Do Karakachans need a house with a yard?
Karakachans are best suited for a home with a yard, though they can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise. The Karakachan is a breed that is best suited for a rural or suburban lifestyle where they have plenty of space to roam and exercise. This breed is typically not well-suited for apartment living or urban environments where they may not have enough space or opportunities to exercise. They are moderately trainable with consistent effort.

Puppy Buyer's FAQ
See Full Guide Here

Visit or Video Call the Breeder
Visit in person if possible, or request a live video call to meet the puppy, see its living conditions, and meet the mom. Ask to see where the dogs eat, sleep, and play.
Get a Vet Exam Immediately
Have a vet examine the puppy within two days of bringing it home, even if it seems healthy.
Request Complete Health Records
Ask for vaccination records, deworming history, and vet exam results. For purebreds, ask for parent health clearances.
Get Everything in Writing
Written contract with health guarantees, return/refund policy, and spay/neuter terms. Verbal promises are unenforceable.
Use Secure Payment Methods
Pay with a credit card or another traceable method that offers buyer protection. Avoid wire transfers, crypto, or gift cards, which are difficult to recover.
Verify Breeder Credentials
Check USDA license, state breeder license, breed club memberships, and reviews. Ask for buyer references.
Know What to Look For
A trustworthy breeder welcomes visits, specializes in one or two breeds, prices fairly, and gives you time to decide without pressure.
Know Your State's Laws
Some states have lemon laws; others rely on contract law. Know your rights before you buy.
