One of the things that impressed us most during his temperament evaluation was his resilience. New experiences never stopped him—they simply gave him a moment to process before he confidently jumped back in.
He genuinely enjoys working with people and naturally looks to his handler for guidance, making him a wonderful partner for families who want an interactive dog rather than one that's content to entertain himself. Toys are highly rewarding for Gizmo, and his excellent play drive gives him fantastic potential for training. Whether you're teaching basic obedience, exploring dog sports, or simply raising a well-mannered companion, he's the kind of puppy that enjoys having a job to do.
Gizmo has a beautiful balance between enthusiasm and livability. He's active enough to enjoy adventures, hikes, and training sessions, but he isn't constantly "on." His moderate intensity means he stays engaged without becoming overwhelming, making him a fun dog to live and work with.
One of Gizmo's most endearing qualities is his empathy. He naturally notices how the people around him are feeling and wants to be close to those he loves. He forms deep bonds with his family and truly enjoys being part of everyday life.
Like many bright, motivated Golden Retrievers, his biggest developmental focus will be impulse control. When excitement builds, his mouth can get a little busy, so we recommend continuing our "Don't Reward the Crazy" philosophy by rewarding calm behavior and teaching thoughtful choices from day one.
