🧡 Meet River! Female German Shepherd | Orange Collar | Mals & Pals Training Price: $400 | Deposit: $200 Born: September 27, 2026 Ready for Her Forever Home: Early December 2026 Location: Columbia, South Carolina Registration: Not AKC or UKC Registered 🐾 About River Meet River, our beautiful orange-collar German Shepherd girl! River is one of Axel and Izzy’s puppies, lovingly raised in our home at Mals & Pals Training. Like all of our puppies, River is receiving individual attention, early socialization, and age-appropriate training designed to give her the strongest possible foundation for a happy, confident life. We believe that raising a great dog begins long before that puppy goes home. Our puppies aren’t simply growing up in a kennel. They are surrounded by people, other dogs, household activities, and everyday experiences that help prepare them for life with their new families. Both parents, Axel and Izzy, are on-site, along with Major, their son from a previous litter. Families have the opportunity to meet the parents and see what one of their previous puppies has grown into! 🎓 Early Training & Socialization As a U.S. Navy veteran, professional dog trainer, and owner of Mals & Pals Training, I put considerable time into giving our puppies a head start. River’s early training and development include: * Recall Training: Learning to respond to “come” and follow her handler. * Basic Obedience: Introduction to sitting on command and positive-reinforcement training. * Leash Training: Beginning to learn how to walk on a leash and become comfortable with gentle guidance. * Crate Training: Introduction to sleeping in a crate at night and developing a positive association with her sleeping area. * Potty Training: Practicing outdoor potty routines and learning that outside is the appropriate place to go. * Socialization: Exposure to adult dogs, people, everyday household activities, and new experiences. * Confidence Building: Exploring different surfaces, sounds, environments, and age-appropriate challenges. * Handling & Grooming: Getting accustomed to being touched, examined, and handled for routine care. These are introductory skills, not guarantees of complete housebreaking or obedience at this young age. Our goal is to help River transition into her new home with confidence and a strong foundation for continued training. 🩺 Health & Veterinary Disclosure We believe in complete honesty and transparency regarding the health of every puppy. Important Health Disclosure: During River’s initial veterinary examination, our veterinarian detected a heart murmur. Our veterinarian explained that many heart murmurs detected in young puppies are temporary and resolve naturally as the puppies mature. However, not every murmur resolves, and additional evaluation may be necessary. River’s condition is being monitored as she grows. We will continue following our veterinarian’s recommendations and will disclose her veterinary findings and any follow-up evaluations to prospective families. Full veterinary reports will be made available to her future family. We will not claim the murmur has resolved unless confirmed by our veterinarian, and any required follow-up care or concerns will be discussed before placement. Our puppies receive age-appropriate deworming, veterinary examinations, and vaccinations according to their veterinary care schedule. We believe every family deserves complete information when making a lifelong commitment to a puppy. 🏡 Finding River’s Forever Family River’s adoption price is $400, with a $200 deposit applied toward her purchase price. The remaining $200 is due before pickup or delivery. We are looking for a loving, responsible home that understands the exercise, training, enrichment, and companionship needs of a German Shepherd. River deserves a family committed to her care for her entire life. 🚗 Pickup, Ground Delivery & Air Transportation We understand that River’s perfect family may not live nearby! Frequently Asked Questions
About German Shepherd Dog Puppies

What is a German Shepherd Dog like?
With a star-studded history and loving yet protective personality, it’s easy to understand why German Shepherd Dogs are one of the most popular breeds around. These pups possess the perfect blend of gentle love and fierce watchfulness. As long as you’re safe and content, they will be too. Full-grown, they typically weigh 50-90 pounds and stand 22-26 inches tall.
How are German Shepherd Dogs with other pets?
German Shepherd Dogs are generally excellent with children of all ages. German Shepherd Dogs are ultra territorial, making them among the least likely of breeds to run away from a fight. German Shepherds get along fine with children and other animals, as long as they’ve been socialized, and they prefer to live in a home with family around. They're moderate barkers — they'll alert you when something's up but aren't excessive.
Do German Shepherd Dogs need a lot of physical activity?
German Shepherd Dogs are happiest when they’re doing some type of work, such as agility, obedience, or any activity that taps into their herding instincts. This breed enjoys helping and having a job to do, so they're often used as guide dogs and police dogs. No matter what the activity is, be sure to keep your German Shepherd busy with mental and physical activities to prevent boredom. Overall, their exercise needs are very high.
Are German Shepherd Dogs high-maintenance when it comes to grooming?
There are three varieties of German Shepherds: coarse and short-haired, coarse and long-haired, and wavy and long-haired. The most common dogs are tan with a black back and mask, but German Shepherds come in a variety of colors, including solid black, grey, brown, and yellow, tricolor, or sable. They also have several kinds of markings, such as “pencilling” (black lines on the toes) and “tar heels” (black on the back of the leg). Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.
What should first-time owners know about German Shepherd Dogs?
German Shepherd Dogs are best suited for a home with a yard, though they can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise. German Shepherds get along fine with children and other animals, as long as they’ve been socialized, and they prefer to live in a home with family around. However, they don’t enjoy being with other dogs and would prefer to have the house to themselves. They are highly trainable and eager to learn.
