Ruger is a wonderful example of the breed! He has been raised in our home, never in a kennel setting. He doesn't have any bad habits - not a barker, not a digger, not a chewer, not a jumper, not a troublemaker. He is excellent on the leash and will stay by our side off leash as well. Ruger is fully crate trained and housebroken to our house. He's used to eating dinner in his crate at bedtime, and likes to eat politely without scarfing it down. He's great around our kids (our youngest is 7) and really enjoys the company of children. Ruger gets along with other dogs and would prefer to go to a home with another dog in the home. He doesn't like being in the back yard alone - he wants some canine company. He gets along with both males and females, doesn't seem to have a preference. He has the ability to go on runs, hikes, and all sorts of high-stamina activities, however, he is also perfectly content just lounging around just hanging out doing nothing. He is REALLY GOOD around small animals like cats and chickens; he doesn't even bat an eye at them! Ruger does really well in the car, and is fabulous on long car rides. He is currently intact, but scheduled to be neutered next week. Leaving him intact has allowed him to grow up with all the right hormone levels for optimal health and longevity. We are very excited for Ruger to go on to bless the perfect family with his love and presence! Catahoulas need time to switch their allegiance over to a new pack, but once that bond is formed, they are the most loyal family companion and protector that you could ever imagine. Ruger is a purebred Catahoula, so he needs a family that is familiar with this breed. However, he is definitely "a Catahoula on easy mode". He has been raised with structure, boundaries, and timely behavioral training, so he comes with all these "presets" built in. All you have to do is give him love and patience, and he will gradually fall right into your family unit. Catahoulas do best with owners who are worthy of their trust and respect. Ruger is submissive towards people. He is neither dominant nor submissive with other dogs, which is wonderful, but he does expect other dogs to adhere to the "canine code of conduct". That means that he will get along great with other similarly strong, intelligent, instinctual breeds, but will not enjoy being touched and fondled and mounted by a Goldendoodle that has never been taught boundaries. He knows how to say no - but some dogs don't know what "no" means. Even still, he will set his boundaries and go no further than that, but he just won't want to be around the incessant pestering. He does enjoy playing with other dogs that understand mutual respect! Ruger is a purebred Catahoula and comes with his NALC registration/pedigree blue slip. If Ruger sounds right for you and your family, please feel free to call or text: . We want him to have a great life!

Frequently Asked Questions
About Catahoula Leopard Dog Puppies

What are Catahoula Leopard Dogs known for?
With striking, spotted coats and a strong drive to herd, the Catahoula Leopard Dog is a beautiful, hard-working companion. Their unique looks may be what initially catches your eye, but these protective pups will impress you even more with their watchfulness, high energy, and affection. Full-grown, they typically weigh 50-95 pounds and stand 22-24 inches tall.
Are Catahoula Leopard Dogs good family dogs?
Catahoula Leopard Dogs are generally okay with older children who know how to handle dogs. This breed gets along best with older children, but can be a bit overwhelming for babies and toddlers. Catahoula Leopards can co-exist with cats and dogs, although they may be a bit aggressive toward dogs of the same sex. They're relatively quiet and don't bark much.
Do Catahoula Leopard Dogs need a lot of physical activity?
As a working dog at heart, the Catahoula Leopard needs plenty of exercise and companionship to be happy. Give them at least an hour of activity or hard play each day, or they may get destructive and loud. These dogs love walking, running, hiking, and any activity that taps into their natural hunting and herding instincts. Overall, their exercise needs are very high.
What's the coat like on a Catahoula Leopard Dog?
The Catahoula Leopard has a short- to medium-length single coat of coarse hair. They get their name from the leopard pattern on their fur with red, blue, black, gray, or multi-color patches. Catahoula Leopards are moderate shedders that need weekly brushing and an occasional bath to maintain their good looks. Grooming-wise, this breed is low-maintenance.
Are Catahoula Leopard Dogs easy to train?
Catahoula Leopard Dogs are best suited for a rural property or home with a large yard. They can live indoors or outdoors, but if they spend a lot of time outside, make sure that the fence is secure and they still get plenty of human interaction. They are fairly easy to train.
