Duplicate Account Policies

Accounts ·

To protect community trust, keep buyer messages organized, and prevent fraud, Puppies.com strictly regulates how many accounts a user may create.

Whenever possible, please avoid creating duplicate accounts. Having multiple accounts leads to missed buyer inquiries, misapplied paid memberships, login confusion, and automatic account suspensions.

Lost Password or Changed Email? Don't Create a New Account!

Many duplicate accounts are created by mistake when users change email addresses or forget their login details. You do not need to create a brand-new account to make these updates:

  • If you forgot your password: Click the Forgot Password? link on the login screen to receive a reset link, or contact Support to recover access.

  • If your email address changed: You can update your registered email address at any time directly through your Account Settings without losing your listings, message history, or membership.

  • If you are locked out: Reach out to Puppies.com Support for help logging back in rather than starting over with a new account.

Can I Use One Email to Both Buy and Sell?

Every Puppies.com account must be registered with a unique email address.

  • Buying & Selling Rules: You are permitted to maintain one Seller account and one Buyer account at the same time.

  • Separate Email Requirement: Since an email address can only be tied to a single account, you must use a different email address for your Seller account than the one used for your Buyer account.

Prohibited Duplicate Account Actions:

According to our Puppies.com Account Guidelines, users are not permitted to create secondary or duplicate accounts to:

  • Abuse or receive multiple 3-day complimentary trial memberships.

  • Avoid negative testimonials received on an older account.

  • Bypass account blocks, warnings, or suspensions placed on an older account.

  • Post duplicate puppy listings across different cities or states to increase exposure.

  • Circumvent these rules by having friends, family members, or household members create accounts on your behalf.

How Duplicate Accounts Are Handled (Consolidation)

When duplicate accounts are detected, our team consolidates them to ensure your account security and maintain site integrity. While specific actions depend on account history, common consolidation actions include:

  • Duplicate Buyer Accounts:

    • Support typically suspends the older account and keeps the newest account active.

  • Duplicate Seller Accounts:

    • If an older seller account has not been accessed in over 90 days, Support will generally keep your newest account active and suspend the old one.

    • If an older seller account was accessed within the last 90 days, the newer account is suspended to prevent free trial abuse, and you will be directed to use your original account.

    • If an older account has unresolved suspensions, active negative testimonials, or duplicate listings for the same dog, the newer account will be suspended immediately.

Note: Account histories vary, and Support handles consolidation on a case-by-case basis. Different circumstances may result in different actions.

Can Data Be Transferred Between Accounts?

If an account is suspended or closed during consolidation, data transfer options are strictly limited:

  • What CANNOT be transferred: Paid memberships, active listings, "Member Since" dates, and message history cannot be moved or merged between accounts under any circumstances.

  • What CAN be transferred: In select scenarios, customer testimonials may be eligible for transfer upon review by Support.
